Our September meeting was hosted by Steve Adwell of AmSouth Bank.
After opening remarks by our President, Steve Adwell, we discussed several current event items:
- Hurricane Ivan - due to strike our Gulf Coast Thursday - is giving several member companies an opportunity to practice their business continuity plans.
- Virus status - several new viruses have come out recently but no "high risk", which has allowed virus companies to slow down the rate of new signature deployment.
- Executive Committee - our most active InfraGard members are being contacted about forming an Executive Committee to help steer our chapter.
- Steve also invited emails from the membership about a community
outreach initiative related to home and small business computing.

Amsouth Chief Information Security Officer Michele Cantley welcomed the group.
Member Gary Warner of Energen and Special Agent Kevin Parker presented: Operation: Web Snare (2.2MB Powerpoint) - a report on the latest DOJ operation.
Member Eric Salveggio of Virginia College gave a presentation based on his paper: Privacy and Strong Encryption (97KB MS Word Document) - a discussion of the pros and cons, and current legislative issues, surrounding the availability of Strong Crypto to citizens and companies.
